GRANT MAKING PRIORITIES
Strategic Initiatives Grants support projects that:
□ Build community leadership
□ Foster cooperative, collaborative and innovative approaches to community issues
□ Address an identifiable community need
□ Clearly benefit Burlington
□ Leverage other funds
□ Show evidence of sustainability (if appropriate to the project)
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
□ Applications can be made by charities or by municipalities working in collaboration with not-for-profit organizations
□ Organizations operating under the auspices of a municipal government (i.e. some libraries, museums, galleries, committees of council) maybe eligible to apply through the municipality.
FORMAT OF LETTER OF INTENT
The Letter of Intent must include the following information:
□ Contact information and background on the applicant, including charitable registration number
□ Description of the project for which funding is requested, including how the project addresses the Foundation’s grant making priorities
□ Anticipated project outcomes and how the outcomes will be measured
□ Project budget, including confirmed and anticipated sources of funding
□ Demonstrate how the support from the Foundation will leverage other funding
□ Identify organizations involved in the planning, implementation, funding or evaluation of the project
The Letter should be no longer than 3 pages of 12-point text.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Assessment will be based on how the Foundation’s support:
□ Fosters cooperative approaches to community issues
□ Recognizes and strengthens local leadership and traditions
□ Addresses an identifiable community need
□ Encourages visioning or responds to new ideas
□ Promotes collaboration and/or partnership among groups
□ Effects the entire Burlington
ASSESSMENT AND DECISION MAKING PROCESS
The Foundation’s Executive Director and the Grants Committee will undertake the initial review and assessment of the Letter of Intent within 30 days of receipt. This assessment will be forwarded to the Board of Directors at November Board Meeting following the completion of the initial review and assessment.
